Note: We're comfortable working with most setups and familiar with all the main languages and code environments. If you need Python tackled in an AWS environment, we're fine.

Our Process

Below is an overview of the various stages most of our projects go through. We have found this provides the least amount of project admin, while delivering the best software under budget.

This is when we get to know each other

We start with an initial call to introduce ourselves and how we operate. We also use this as an opportunity to learn about you, your organisation, and what your goals are with software development.

After this we'll take your requirements away and put together an initial proposal for your project, placed within our set Pricing Matrix.

If our proposal meets your timeframes, scope, and budget needs, we'll get the paperwork signed and start work. Simple!

There is no charge for this process
The output from this is an initial project plan (PDF) which outlines your requirements, and the nature of the proposed solution and how it will meet them.
We'll also provide an initial roadmap with a list of the development steps, and some rough timeframes for delivery.

Discovery is where we really get a detailed sense of your needs.

Once we're contracted, we'll use interviews and surveys to get a deeper sense of what your software needs to be able to do. This is often the first time this has been done formally and often changes the nature of the product as we all get clarity on what is the optimal outcome.

This step is critical to success, so we won't proceed until we're sure we've documented, summarised, and prioritised all of your needs. And that you've confirmed as much.

Our questionarres and surveys can be applied to stakeholders, internal users, or customers as needed.
The output is a document that groups and prioritises your needs, even those outside of the scope of this project.
Many clients find the "Requirements" document a valuable business tool to help structure other areas beyond the software being built.

Here is where we start shaping your software solution

Confident that your needs are documented, we'll start designing your software in two primary areas.

Firstly we'll design the User Experience side of things. We imagine user activities that cover each of your Requirements. Then we design a user environment that covers all of those activities in the right order, with the least amount of screens and interactions.

With this high level design in place, we'll design the "engine" of your software. Core application logic, databases, servers, etc.

We provide high level mockups of your new User Interface for sign off. This allows you to be confident the end product meets your needs without waiting for the final release.
We also provide a Technical Design Document outlining how the code will function, including a schema which visualises how the back end will fit together.
At this point we normally update the "Pre Sale" roadmap and project plan, now that we've got a much clearer vision of what is to be built.

Where the work really happens

We use a form of software project management called SCRUM to efficiently tackle your project in a way that lets you have full visibility and control of the process.

We break down all the work into smaller and smaller pieces, and on a weekly basis prioritise the workload for the week ahead. We strongly encourage clients to be a part of this process.

Every week we assess and re-prioritise in order to make sure we're staying on target. This also allows for some flexbility as client requirements do often change as the software takes shape.

All our client projects are available on a client accessible Trello board.
Our standard "Sprint" covers a week's worth of work.
We prefer weekly client meetings to review the past 7 days, assess progress, and prioritise the following week

It's Alive!

During development, we do constant code and user testing to make sure your software works. But we go through a formal testing process pre-release.

With each client, we make a list of what you expect the software experience to be like. This becomes a list of "yes/no" tick boxes that we need to satisfy before we release the software.

We do a staggered release for all software, moving your software from a development environment to a dedicated space for live user testing. Only once it hits your release standards do we move it Live.

We perform programatic testing throughout our development
We mandate the creation of a client "Release checklist" using your own words to ensure accuracy.
We have rigorous monitoring processes to ensure that any issues/bugs are identified and documented.
We perform Live monitoring of all systems at lauch to catch any issues early.
As needed, we can provide Client systems to monitor things themselves, or be alerted in case of problems.

The wind beneath your wings

For all clients, we provide automatic monitoring of your solution. This allows us to keep track of how well its performing, and respond to any issues that might arise.

Each project comes with dedicated hosting, along with pre-set SLAS (Service Level Agreements) covering our commitment to keeping things up and running.

Beyond that, post release support really depends on each client. If your software is business critical or very complex, we offer wider support contracts tailored to your needs.

All client solutions come with automatic server/database/application monitoring as standard. These cover all front and back end environments
We provide both internal SLAS for response times, as well as guaranteed uptime SLAS from our hosting partners.
